There are that many vets in this town?
I would like to share a funny story with you about finding a vet when we moved.
Ok so we moved from a very small rural town in Colorado to a big city in Colorado, in the small town there were two vets one for horses and one for pretty much anything else. Of course as soon as we arrived at our new home Missy Mew, my cat, got into the chicken bones from lunch and swallowed on, dang cat I really didn’t have time for that but it couldn’t be helped so now I had to find a vet right away, I do love that dang cat after all.
Ok this can’t be that complicated can it? You have no idea. I got out the trusty phone book and looked up veterinarian little did I know the bigger the town the more vets they need. Too many rich old ladies with yappy little dogs that need their nails trimmed I guess. So as I am frantically searching for a vet in the phone book my son, who was 4 at the time, runs up to me and says “Mommy there is a stranger taking Missy” I panicked and ran out the door only to see this man I don’t know is doing something horrible to my angel baby cat and she is howling and crying so I grabbed my sons plastic baseball bat and ran over to the horrible man who was hurting my baby kitty.
The man, who as I found out later is a vet and our next door neighbor, was using forceps to clear Missy’s throat because she was choking and he didn’t have time to put her under. I hit him three times before he could explain who he was and what he was doing, I felt terrible and baked him a cake; he is now our vet, our neighbor and our friend. We still laugh about the day I tried to kill him with a plastic bat. However assuming that you won’t try to kill your vet I have located a few websites that offer listings for vets here are some of them. Vcapets.com, vets.yellowpages.com, localvets.com, vetclick.com and Pet.Just.Answer.com, I am sure there are many more. I generally find that word of mouth is also a good way to find any kind of service especially one as important as your new vet.
